Girlfriend Proximity Equals Extra 8-Bit Lives, But Only On A T-Shirt

January 31st, 2008

Quick View Full Post (305 words)

Just in time for the Valentine, (which is February 14th) are these 8-bit dynamic life shirts from ThinkGeek. As in picture below, when everything is normal only two and half heart are light on, but when you and the other half of you, the one that you love, get closer.....all light up :D

I find that the idea is pretty much the same of the wi-fi t-shirt but I like it very much :D

It makes me laugh:D

At the end of that post I put a video that explain all.

Dynamic Life ShirtDynamic Life Shirt

By Evan Ackerman

Just in time for Valentine’s Day (which is February 14th, guys, FEBRUARY 14th) are these 8-bit dynamic life shirts from ThinkGeek. Normally, the shirts light up with two and a half lives each, but when you and your significant other get within two meters of each other, you’ll start gaining lives as you get closer and closer until finally you reach 6 lives each and, I assume, total 8-bit bliss. After that, you’re allowed to make up to 5 gropes, lewd gestures, or thoughtless comments before you die.

The shirts are 100otton, and the hearts are actually a decal that can be removed for washing. They’ll run for about 3 hours on a battery pack that fits into a little pocket on the shirt. A characteristic of these shirts that’s ripe for abuse is that they’re not picky about which specific shirts are near them; they’ll light up in response to any other dynamic life shirts in the vicinity. Furthermore, you can buy a little transmitter that duplicates the radio in the shirts, and attach it to… Yeah, I’m not even gonna go there.

The shirts are $25 each, and the transmitter pack is $12.

5978 High Quality Icons for Web, Apps & RSS

January 31st, 2008

It's really huge and professional. This is beyond question the largest supply of free icons ever published in one article. With this exceedingly massive supply, your icon solutions for websites and Apps are pretty much endless! Ranging from file types to gadgets, Mac icons to Firefox orbs, RSS feeds and even race cars. Yes, even race cars.

And all of them are free. Plus, the the benefit for you is that they have all been carefully (and tediously) organized. Each set contains only the largest size available for it's particular icon (so we don't have 10 different duplicates for every size) and is labeled with the package name & a link to the author's site where you can check out more of their work.

One final note: each of these icons are in .jpg format. Which means that if you are using them against white backgrounds they'll do fine, however if you want the uncompressed PNG's in their original transparent form, please visit the author's website listed for each set.

Qtrax P2P

January 29th, 2008

Quick View Full Post (176 words) (1 image)

is an ad supported legal P2P music jukebox that enables the user to have free music downloads. It was announced at the 2008 Midem conference and has claimed to have made license agreements with the four major record labels: EMI, SonyBMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.

The Qtrax client is based on Songbird, a GPL combination of media player and web browser. Songbird itself is based on components from the Mozilla project.[14]

At the moment the application allows only to search for particular songs and create playlists from songs which are already on the computer's hard drive. If one attempts to download a song, a message will appear, informing the user that downloading is not available yet, this is probably because QTrax has no content deal with any of the major labels. Moreover, neither album artwork nor other artist-related images were displayed, however as of 11:00am GMT 29th January some of the images started to appear. There are, however, "top 5 downloads", but most likely they represent test downloads conducted by Qtrax employees.

Codename Windows 7

January 25th, 2008

Quick View Full Post (324 words)

With Windows Vista finally behind us, it's time to turn our attention to the next Windows client release, which is currently codenamed Windows "7", though Microsoft has used other code-names, like "Vienna" and "Windows Seven" in the past. Microsoft is planning to ship its next major version of Windows--known internally as version "7"--within roughly three years, CNET News.com has learned. The company discussed Windows 7 on Thursday at a conference for its field sales force in Orlando, Fla., according to sources close to the company. While the company provided few details, Windows 7, the next client version of the operating system, will be among the steps taken by Microsoft to establish a more predictable release schedule, according to sources. The company plans a more "iterative" process of information disclosure to business customers and partners, sources said. Windows Vista, the oft-delayed most recent release of Windows, shipped to businesses in November and to consumers in January after more than five years of development. Vista's gestation period was marked by shifting product details as internal priorities changed and problems arose with development. Like Vista, Windows 7 will ship in consumer and business versions, and in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The company also confirmed that it is considering a subscription model to complement Windows, but did not provide specifics or a time frame. Windows 7 was previously known by the code name Vienna. A Microsoft representative confirmed that Windows 7 is the internal code name for the next client release of Windows. The details were released "as part of our ongoing outreach to enterprise customers and partners, Microsoft has begun sharing plans for how they will continue to deliver value to businesses in the future…Software Assurance customers in particular," a representative said in a statement via e-mail. "Microsoft is scoping Windows 7 development to a three-year time frame, and then the specific release date will ultimately be determined by meeting the quality bar," according to the representative.

Lockimage: password protects your images

January 25th, 2008

Quick View Full Post (151 words) (1 image)

We can think of many reasons why it'd be a good idea to password protect an image, and, whatever your reason may be (patent pictures, blueprints of the Death Star, or maybe a couple naughty shots of the wife), sometimes it's best that others don't find out. To solve this problem, we present Lockimage. It consists of just one file and doesn't need to be installed. Lockimage will convert any picture into a "password protected executable," which means the file will open on any PC without the Lockimage program. This means, however, the modified file is no longer considered an image file, so this may not be the right solution for some. Lockimage is similar to Locknote, which uses a similar method of locking files. It's also a Windows-only application, and it's probably best to use this against non-hacker types. With the program being open-source, the recipe isn't exactly a secret.

The "spaceships" are designed to carry a maximum of eight people

Sir Richard Branson has unveiled a mock-up of the rocket-powered vehicle that will carry clients into space through his Virgin Galactic business.

The Virgin spaceships are designed to carry six passengers and two pilots to an altitude of about 140km on a sub-orbital space flight.

Tickets on a Virgin Galactic flight are expected to cost £100,000 ($190,000).

The mock-up of the spacecraft was unveiled at the Javits exhibition centre in New York on Thursday.

The Virgin craft are based on the design of SpaceShipOne, built by aviation pioneer Burt Rutan, which became the first privately built vehicle to reach space in 2004.

SpaceShipOne made three flights to altitudes just greater than 100km - the edge of the Earth's atmosphere - claiming the prestigious Ansari X-Prize.

Public access

The rocket plane was first carried to a launch altitude of 15km (50,000ft) by an aircraft, or mothership, called White Knight.

It was then released and ignited its rocket engine, which propelled it through the atmosphere.

The $10m (£5.7m) Ansari X-Prize was offered to the first non-government, manned flight into space.

Virgin Group has contracted Rutan's company Scaled Composites to design and build the passenger spaceship and its mothership. Virgin Galactic will own and operate at least five spaceships and two motherships.

The passenger flights, which could begin in 2009, will take off from a $225m (£127m) facility called Spaceport America in the New Mexico desert.

Will Whitehorn, president of Virgin Galactic, said the firm was in negotiations over a reality TV show.

In the show, contestants would compete to win a place on a space flight, the Press Association reported.

Mr Whitehorn said: "The indications are that we can create a show that would give people the chance to go into space. It would be a cross between Dr Who, Star Trek and the Krypton Factor."

Virgin Galactic is one of several private firms vying to open up public access to space.

Firefox Tips you May Not Know About (Part 2)

January 24th, 2008

Quick View Full Post (506 words)

Every day I find new Firefox tips and tricks that I didn’t know about and then I find out that other people didn’t know about them either. So here’s what I discovered recently to make you more of a Firefox power-user. Some of them are useful keyboard shortcuts to keep your hand away from that mouse, and others are just regular tips to optimize and improve your use of Firefox.

KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

firefoxsearchenginebar.pngCTRL and K - moves your cursor up to the search engine plug-in box. Once you’re there, CTRL and the up / down arrows on your keyboard will jump from search engine to search engine.

CTRL + SHIFT + T - re-opens the last closed tab.

SPACEBAR : scrolls down the webpage you’re on.

SHIFT and the SPACEBAR : scrolls up the webpage you’re on.

F11 - removes the browser bars and makes the webpage full screen. Press F11 again to go back to normal.

CTRL + T - Opens a new tab window.

REGULAR TIPS

viewmenufirefox.pngRemove toolbars from the browser without uninstalling them : sometimes you need a toolbar to disappear as it takes up too much space on your browser. But at the same time, you will need that toolbar at some point and so you don’t want to uninstall it. Well, you can temporarily hide it by doing the following :

Go to View then Toolbars. Untick the toolbar you want to disappear and then it will be gone. To bring it back again, go back to View, Toolbars and re-tick it. The toolbar will then re-appear.

ffcalc.pngUse your Google search plug-in as a calculator : you can do this already on the normal Google page and you can also do it in the Firefox search plug-in. Just enter your numbers and mathematical symbols from your keyboard number-pad and the result will be shown in the search suggestions box. Of course you will already have the Windows calculator installed on your computer but if you have Firefox already open, you may find this facility a little more convenient.

firefoxpassword.pngReveal saved passwords in Firefox : I don’t use the saved passwords function in Firefox as I am totally paranoid about online security but there is apparently a javascript code you can enter into the Firefox address bar to reveal a saved password in Firefox. Having the browser save your passwords is all well and good but this can make you forget the actual password eventually since you are not typing it in every day. So if you need the actual password for any reason, just input the following code into the address bar and the password will be revealed in a pop-up box :

javascript:(function(){var s,F,j,f,i; s = “”; F = document.forms; for(j=0; j<F.length; ++j) { f = F[j]; for (i=0; i<f.length; ++i) { if (f[i].type.toLowerCase() == “password”) s += f[i].value + “\n”; } } if (s) alert(”Passwords in forms on this page:\n\n” + s); else alert(”There are no passwords in forms on this page.”);})();

iPod software - PoddoX

January 24th, 2008

Quick View Full Post (348 words)

I always search an alternative software for my iPod.
I don't know you but somethimes, iTunes is very hard to me. I mean, at the beginning, when I install first time, I don't understand so much taht software.
Then I noticed that was a little heavy for my pc...so when I can, I keep search a software for iPod to try...hopefully I made a service to you as well. :D
I hope it's true and if you have some experience about that, please leave a comment.
Here I write all I can find about that software:

PoddoX, the iTunes alternative The software PoddoX is a fast and user friendly alternative to iTunes, Apple’s iPod software. With PoddoX you can easily copy your music, pictures and videos to your iPod. Poddox also helps you to organize the existing files on the iPod: delete them, copy them back to your computer or to any other storage medium. To this end, Poddox lists the content of your iPod clearly structured in a tree control. You can even copy files or hole folders from the Windows explorer to your iPod. This option is missing in iTunes. Other than iTunes or alternative software for iPod, PoddoX doesn't create or copy files to folders as long as you didn’t choose to do so. Audio Poddox reads and writes any kind of MP3 data (MPEG-1/2/2.5 - Layer 1/2/3) from and to your iPod. It calculates the exact duration, bit- and samplerate and reads other useful information of the single tracks. Metadata is read from ID3v1-Tags and ID3v2-Tags. In addition MPEG-4 audio data in M4A and M4B containers are supported. All relevant metadata (titel, artist, album ...) is read from the common Apple-Tag, used by iTunes and other encoders. Photo, video, artwork and more... Poddox’s development is at an early stage and by far not all aims are reached. The support of images, videos, artwork and other features is not completed yet. But PoddoX is growing fast: new versions with further tools will be released regularly. PoddoX becomes a real alternative to Apple’s iTunes.

The Readius Is Real!

January 24th, 2008

Quick View Full Post (301 words)

The dream come true. the Readius is coming in “mid-2008.

The price hasn’t yet been set but I’d guess it’ll be somewhere in the $300 to $500 range.

I don't know you, but I feel that is amazing sytff, like star trek.

And I really love that kind of tecnology, It astonish me. That is even possible.

And, well, $300 I can make a gift to myself, I guess. :D

The catch? No web browser. So close, huh? The Readius will have high-speed data access but everything will have to be preconfigured from your home PC first, like your e-mail accounts, podcasts, news feeds, and the like.

That's really amazing...I can't wait :DDDD

About a year ago we brought you a prototype device that used a low-energy, high-resolution, rollable e-ink display.

The idea was to have a phone that could have a large display roll into a small package. So, basically, the display would be bigger than the phone, allowing for a variety of uses, including book reading.

Well, that device is now officially on the slab to be created and sold.

It's currently called the Readius and is being created by a spin-off of Philip's electronics called Polymer Vision. The device will be slated to compete directly with high-end phones, including the iPhone...but also with Amazon's Kindle e-Reader.

The good news is that because e-ink is such a low-power display, the phone will be light and won't need to charge as frequently as the iPhone. However, that high-res, low-power display has its limitations too, like only being possible and grayscale, and with a long refresh rate that makes it unusable for video.

That won't stop me from sinking a few hundred dollars into it, but as we all know, I'm an e-reader fanboy.

MochiAds and Gaia Announce 'Become a Rock Star' Flash Games Contest

January 23rd, 2008

Quick View Full Post (333 words)

Today MochiAds, the online games advertising network from Mochi Media, announced the launch of the “Flash Rock Star Games Contest” with Gaia Online, the leading online hangout for teens, aimed at recognizing talent within the up-and-coming segment of Flash game developers. Winners of the contest will receive over $25,000 worth of cash and prizes as well as the opportunity to be awarded game development contracts from Gaia.

Flash games are one of the biggest growth areas within the gaming industry, tapping into the mainstream audience of one in three Internet users playing casual games online. Games built in this format require fewer developer resources compared to traditional games, and attract a wide following because they are free to play and easily distributed on the web. This situation is attractive for budding game designers without large resources, and where many innovative ideas are coming to fruition.

MochiAds and Gaia are looking for innovative and engaging games for the three month contest, as determined by Gaia’s community as well as a panel of judges. “This contest is a unique opportunity for Flash game developers to get the exposure they deserve,” said Mochi Media CEO Jameson Hsu. “There are a lot of talented developers out there, and we’re excited to bring them tools that increase community interaction with their games.”

The contest marks the latest addition to services provided by MochiAds, a custom API allowing developers to create games with custom leader boards and the ability to communicate with publisher sites. Gaia Online is the first to use this enhanced functionality to integrate games into their chat and avatar system. As part of the deal, Gaia Online will receive a premium catalogue of games which enables Gaia users to earn virtual currency and rewards for playing the games.

ou can crop a web site and keep the cropped “snippet” on your desktop. Once it is cropped you can set a refresh increment and visually watch for changes. When you want to view the whole site again just click on it and the rest of the site is exposed. It’s missing a few features like custom refresh increments, the crop marquee doesn’t scroll with the page when you scroll and no force reload. But hey, it’s only a beta, it will only get better.

Snippet is created by one of the true pioneers of Flash work Gabocorp. Check out the snippet video and download the beta for yourself over at their site.

Here's an art competition for those hard working artists that use Red Bull to keep them going in the studio; it's the Red Bull Art of Can competition. It's not for everyone, but for the artists that drink their product (I have personally never tasted it) and those that don't mind mixing with the corporate world, it could be good.

"The annual Red Bull Art of Can contest and exhibition challenges laypersons to professional artists to create a piece of original artwork that is inspired by or made from recycled Red Bull cans. No limits are placed on the artists, and their only guideline is that each creation evokes the spirit of Red Bull or utilizes the can in some way."

265 artists submitted Red Bull works of art to the Red Bull Art of Can in Philadelphia. They will be on display at the Fuel Collection from the 20th of October. There's more information on entering the Red Bull Art of Can competition at their website here.

Optimus Tactus keyboard

January 15th, 2008

Quick View Full Post (143 words)

Yeah, you thought the Optimus Maximus was the holy grail of keyboarding -- then you saw the Optimus Tactus, a giant touch sensor display tablet keyboard that could do all the sorts of crazy stuff the Maximus can't even touch, like playing movies and being a gigantic color swatch. Optimus Tactus does not have physical keys, which means there are no restrictions on their shape and size.

Any part of the keyboard surface can be programmed to perform any function or to display any images.

The only thing we don't get: the name. Tactus? Touch-sensitive doesn't exactly shout tactility to us, but since it's all just theoretical at this point, maybe by the time keyboards like this exist we'll all be typing on shape-shifting tactile membranes overlaid on touchscreens. That is, if Apple's patents haven't already blocked everyone else off from going there.

Facebook is a social utility that connects you with the people around you.
Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg, a former Harvard student. Initially the membership of Facebook was restricted to students of Harvard College. It was subsequently expanded to MIT, Boston University, Boston College, and all Ivy League schools within two months. Many individual universities were added in rapid succession over the next year. Eventually, people with a university (e.g .edu, .ac.uk, etc.) email address from institutions across the globe were eligible to join. Networks were then initiated for high schools on February 27, 2006 and some large companies. Since September 11, 2006, anyone 13 or older may join.Users can select to join one or more participating networks, such as a high school, place of employment, or geographic region.

The site has more than 58 million active users (including non-collegiate members) worldwide, with membership expected to surpass 60 million users by the end of 2007. From September 2006 to September 2007 the site's traffic ranking increased from 60th to 7th, according to Alexa. It is the number one site for photos in the United States with over 60 million photos uploaded weekly.

The name of the site refers to the paper facebooks depicting members of the campus community that some U.S. colleges and preparatory schools give to incoming students, faculty, and staff as a way to get to know other people on campus.

On November 7, 2007, Facebook announced Facebook Ads; Facebook Beacon, a marketing initiative which includes a system for websites to allow users to share chosen information about their activities on the sites with their Facebook friends ; the capability of businesses to host pages on Facebook for various brands, products and services (Facebook Pages). On November 30, 2007, it was reported that Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing had invested $60 million in Facebook.
